In Fragokastello, apart from the main beach of the Castle, there are also "Orthi Ammos" and "Kritama" beaches, as well as "Illigas", "Chondros Volakas", "Mavro Nero" and "Vatalo" beaches. Other nearby beaches are "Laki", "Agia Marina', "Peristeres" and 'Korakas" to the east and "Koutelos" beach to the west.
In Chora Sfakion, 'Filaki", "Vrissi” and "Illigas" are beaches accessible by car while "Glyka Nera", "Timios Stavros", "Finikas", "Likos", "Marmara" and "Agios Pavlos" can be accessed only by water Taxi or via E4 path starting in Chora Sfakion.
Loutro, Agia Roumeli as well as Paleochora and Gavdos are connected with the port in Chora Sfakion byANENDYKboats.
We strongly recommend you to visit Gavdos, the southernmost point in Europe. Kalypso’s island, according to greek mythology, it is 22 nautical miles from Chora Sfakion. Some of the most beautiful beaches on this island are "Karave", "Korfos", "Tripiti", "Sarakiniko", "Ayannis", "Lavrakas", "Pyrgos" and "Potamos".
Samaria Gorge, a national park, ends in Sfakia region and more specifically in Agia Roumeli. There are other famous gorges as well, smaller ones, such as "Aradena", "Imbros", "Asfendos" and "Kallikratis" and other less well known such as "Elygia", "lligas", "Kapnis", "Sfagofarago" and "Manikas".
Walking, bike riding, climbing, gorge hiking or path hiking on the famous E4 path are some of the alternatives for mountain lovers. More adventurous walkers can visit Anopoli Sfakion, a mountainous village of the area, by car and then walk until Pachnes, the highest peak of the White Mountains (Lefka Ori)! Driving through the mountainous villages of the region is interesting even though some parts of the road are quite rough. We recommend routes such as:

Fragokastello – Imbros – Askifou
In Askifou region, there is a War Museum and a Hunting Farm for hunting lovers on the plateau.
At the end of the route you can admire fresh water springs that flow through the rocks of Argyroupoli.
During the time spent near the sea, apart from swimming, diving, fishing and practicing water sports you can stroll along the beaches of the village or relax till late on the sun loungers of the beach and admire the amazing sunset in Fragokastello!
After a 20-minute drive you reach Chora Sfakion where you take a small boat to Loutro, Agia Roumeli, which is the exit of Samaria Gorge, or to the island of Gavdos. These are ideal choices for day trips!
There are also boats taking visitors to "Glyka Nera", "Lykos", "Finikas", "Marmara" and other beautiful small bays of the region. If you have your own boat, it is even better! There is also a coastal path, after Ε4 path, that starts in Chora Sfakion and through this you can visit all these small bays!
For sea lovers, there is the Notos Mare, diving center in Chora Sfakion.
To get a more complete picture of west Crete, we recommend visiting Chania, Sougia, Paleochora, Elafonissi, Balos, Gramvousa, Falassarna and the famous Kournas Lake.
On the way to Rethymnon, places like Fortezza, Arkadi, Plakias, Prevelis Monastery, Sfedoni Cave in Zoniana village and Ideon Andro in Anogia village will make your visit worthwhile.
